Murano, an island north of Venice has been making glass for centuries. In 1921, Murano became the center for Venetian glass making. Today, the Venetian glass makers of Murano continue to employ the same techniques used centuries ago. While there are cheap imitations out there, keep in mind that it takes about 15 years to become a master glass blower. You can identify a true piece of Murano by its weight, clarity and vibrancy.
